Summer is fast approaching and temperatures are rising in Texas. Children will be home for summer break soon and may spend a great deal of time outside in your yard or pool playing with friends. This may be a good time to check with your Dallas insurance agent to make sure your policies are in order in case you need to call on coverage after an injury or accident at your home.
One important thing to remember during the summer months is to apply plenty of sunscreen to your children’s skin when they are ready to go outside and play. The sun is especially hot between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. A sunscreen with an SPF (sun protection factor) of 30 or more may be best for children. It may be wise to re-apply the sunscreen at least every two hours, and more often if children are playing in water. Try not to neglect areas of the body like the tops of ears, the part in hair, the back of the neck, and the tops of feet.
Drinking plenty of water is important for children when playing long hours in the sun. Sweating in the heat causes a body to lose water, and that water should be replenished to avoid heat-related illnesses. Children who do not like to drink a lot of water may enjoy sports drinks or popsicles, but water is best for the body. Should you plan to entertain your children’s friends at your home and in your yard over the summer, you may want to consult your Dallas insurance agent to verify that you have enough financial protection, including liability coverage, for your summer activities.
